Designing the dock transfer

The transfer mechanism must handle alignment, changing water levels and the next vehicle at the quay. We are developing it alongside the vessel.

Dock transfer concept. Alignment and handling details remain under development.

Treat the quay as part of the system

The water journey ends with a handover. To continue toward the recipient, the cargo container needs to move from the vessel to equipment on land. That connection shapes the vessel’s layout, the transfer mechanism and the position of the ground robot, so we are considering them together.

Work with a changing waterline

The quay and the vessel do not form a fixed platform. Water level, vessel position and loading all affect the relationship between them. The design must account for alignment and support throughout the handover, including how the container is held before it can be released to the receiving vehicle.

Coordinate the handover

The transfer also needs a clear sequence: position the receiving vehicle, establish that the equipment is ready, move the container and confirm that it is secured. The mechanism and its control logic are being developed alongside the vessel. Engineering and tests will determine the operating limits and how an interrupted transfer should be handled.
